The first book I have read over the summer was Starflight by Melissa Landers. The book is about a girl named Solara and a boy named Doran. Solara and Doran live on Earth and they want to go to other planets for different reasons. Solara (a poor, homeless girl) wants to go to the fringe, where she was offered a job and where she wouldn't be judged by her criminal record or her grease under her fingernails. The only problem was she didn't have enough money to get on a starship there. Doran, (a rich boy) wants to go to the obsidian beaches to invent a new fuel that would make gas prices much cheaper. Solara's only chance to get on the starship was to work as a slave for Doran. They hate each other. As the plot moves on, Solara is kicked off the starship by Doran, and she drags him down with her. They get on another ship, a beaten down, small ship. soon, Solara and Doran realize their ship isn't safe when the pirates attack and Doran was framed for stealing. They eventually begin to fall in love and decide it wasn't safe anywhere but the ship or they would die by either bounty hunters, pirates, or would be put in prison. Solara and Doran decide to stay with each other wherever they go.
This book reminds me of the movie Star Wars. In both book and movie, they travel around the galaxy to escape danger and fight evil to defend themselves. In both, the genres are action, sci-fi, and (even if it's not that much), romance.
I recommend this book for anyone who likes the sci-fi, action, or romance genres. It is a very good book, and even though I usually don't like sci-fi books, this one was very good. I liked this book because it was always interesting, and never got boring. Over all, it was a very interesting, action-packed book.
