Me and Earl and the Dying Girl Essay
I’m writing about the book, “Me and Earl, and the Dying Girl”, a fiction novel written by Jesse Andrews. Me and Earl and the dying Girl is about a kid named Gregory Gaines. In the book, Greg doesn’t have many friends, just Earl who he makes mediocre films with, but refuses to share with anyone. Greg tries to be as unnoticeable as possible, and doesn’t try to make many good friends. One day his mom tells him a girl named Rachel, who he goes to high school with, has been diagnosed with leukemia. Greg’s mom convinces him to start hanging out with rachel. The book talks about how becoming friends with Rachel changes Greg’s perspective on his friends, his films, and high school.
I think this book connected to another fiction book I read, called “The True Diary of a Part Time Indian”. The writing style in both books are really similar. The jokes sound a lot alike, and even though the plot is completely different, while I was reading this book, I kept on thinking about The True Diary of a Part Time Indian, and how similar they were. I think I would recommend this book to anyone who liked The True diary of a Part Time Indian. They have the same sense of humor, and I think both authors have very similar styles of writing. However, Me and Earl and the Dying Girl is a little bit more mature, and has a lot of language (so does True Diary of a Part Time Indian, but not as much). This personally bothered me a little bit, but that’s just my opinion, and some people find that kind of writing funny, so if you do, this would probably be a really good book for you. This book is also a movie now, and looks very similar to “the Fault in Our Stars” so if you liked that, I would recommend this to you as well.
