Island Of The Blue Dolphins by Scott O'Dell

A book I read this summer was called Island Of The Blue Dolphins. This book is about a girl named Karana. She lived in a tribe called Ghalas-at. Her tribe left one day, because another tribe drove them out. while the ship was leaving, she found that her 6 yr old brother Ramo was left behind. Karana swam back to shore to her brother, watching the ship leave. They were alone. A couple days later, Ramo was killed by dogs because he wandered off on his own and Karana, left alone, vowed to get her revenge. She injured the leader badly, but felt bad, so she healed him. They became friends and Karana called him Rontu. Rontu was her companion and helped her with her chores and loneliness. When Rontu died from the aleuts (another tribe), she made a friend from the tribe, even though they didn't speak the same language. She left on a boat with the tribe and her new dog, Rontu-aru.

This book reminded me of the movie castaway. They both were stranded on an island and had to find a way to survive. Both of them learned many new things, like forgiveness and how to use new tools and objects to live.

I recommend this book to whoever likes animal, fiction, and adventure books. I liked this book because it could (for the most part) happen in real life, and it showed forgiveness and survival. It was a good book, so you should read it.
