When you first look a the comic book cover of Secret Invasion you might question it ever being good and thinking it will be another dis-tasteful comic book that takes itself to serisouly. After reading the first few pages of Secret Invasion yes there is grotesque drawings not the best plot but a comic book that knows how to use its horrible jokes and the cheesiness of each character to its advantage.

The first comic book in the series shows Tony Clark known as Iron Man figure out that the villains  of the story Skrull is on their planet trying to take over. Meanwhile the comic book conveys small little moments across America where the Skrull slowly take over. After Tony Starks theory you find out that their is a Skrull sip crashing to earth. The comic book cuts to Tony Stark calling his Avengers to assemble and find this crash-landing jet. Thats when the Avengers find out that these other avengers beat Tony Stark to the chase of finding the ship. When the two Avengers both find the ship before Iron Man can do anything he has a huge seizure do to the ship and thats when the two avenger teams realize they ave to work together to find out what is happening to Iron Man.

There is 8 comic books in the mini-series and I will be happy to say that  I will be reading all of them. What I think I enjoyed the most about this comic book was two things. The first thing I enjoyed about this comic book is that unlike most Avenger comic books it skip any good elements and fast forwards to the fighting as quickly as it can. Unlike most though this comic book Secret Invasion starts to set up the elements of this story before anything happens and I think thats why I am thirsty for more. I also have to say the author of this book Secret Invasion really wrote the first comic of the series like a really cheesy show. Good characters bad cheesy one liners and cuts to different  shots of the individual superhero's. I honestly could picture the horrible over serious acting style of this comic book if turned into a tv show. I would recommend this comic book for anybody that is bored one day and has nothing to do because this comic book will take up a lot of your time if you allow it to it is a rainy day read.

Nimona by Noelle Stevenson

Nimona was an exiting graphic novel that wasn't afraid to embrace it's origins on the web (in a good way!). It was funny satirical and challenged the tropes of it's genre in a not so subtle way. though it started out silly and fun it had a deep and meaningful ending. Nimona was a tragic character with a happy go lucky attitude and though she wasn't afraid to lie and kill Stevens was able to make her seem lovable and relate and an all around bad*ss. The story was great the characters were complex and interesting and i was truly sad when it was over. I had I great time reading this comic and I couldn't put it down until I finished. It surprised me how good  it was and I say that it passed for 5 stars with flying colors.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child By J. K. Rowling

I think that the newest installment of the Harry Potter franchise lives up to the hype it is great to revisit old characters and meet new ones this book filled me with nostalgia. Scorpius is an amazing character and the villain is a thrilling reveal. Rowling does a great job of showing that Harry is far from perfect. It was a quick read for me (I read it in about 2 days). though it has gotten some criticism i love the play format. Though it had it;s many strengths many characters were severely under serviced or completely absent. But Rowling did a great job with the characters that did appear. Personally, I would give this book 4.5 stars.

Dune by Frank Herbert

Dune truly is one of the best science fiction novels I've ever read. It's combination of a science fiction environment and a story about religion and how the future may seem certain but it is not. The Harsh environment of Arrakis(the planet where the book takes place) is an amazing metaphor for how the hunger for a valuable recourse, spice(which could me interpreted as a crude oil analogue) stops Arrakis from becoming the paradise that it could be. Those who hunger for the spice(the Emperor and the Barron) are so ignorant of how it is created and only the freemen natives that they scorn as uncivilized and just a inconvenience are truly a great fighting force and are knowledgeable far beyond that of the Barron and his men. Herbert is not afraid to bring light to the fact that though spice may give Paul, the Bene Gesserit Reverend mothers, and the guild navigators their power it is still a drug and an additive one at that. I could go on about the many layers of Frank Herbert's Dune. All around I would give this book 5 stars and I think that it deserves the awards that it has been given over the years since it's publication in the 60's and it still holds up today.

It's Kind Of A Funny Story - Delilah

Image result for it's kind of a funny story          It's Kind Of A Funny Story, a New York Times bestseller written by Ned Vizzini, is quite the contrary of a funny story. In it, Vizzini finds a way to write about some of the many struggles a New York City teenager goes through in a very clever and insightful  manner. Although this may technically be about a boy struggling with depression, what you really take away from this novel is the desire to live life and the role that hope can play while everything else may be breaking down. Craig has just gotten into one of the most prestigious high schools in the city, though not without toil. The pressure of friendships, of relationships, and school work just takes over. Ned Vizzini explores the idea that nothing is worth it. To Craig, it all seemed pointless. He realizes that compared to the other kids, he's just average. After a suicidal episode one night, he unknowingly checks himself into a mental institution in his neighborhood. His short stay there allows him to understand his thoughts and face them head on.
This is an amazing book written from Vizzini's own reality. He spent some time in a psychiatric hospital himself, which really gives his story an edge because of all the truth in it. Unfortunately the author of this incredibly moving tale took his own life at 32. His writing connects to the fact  that  this is happening. Society has expectations that are hard to live up to. Not everything is as easy as the movies may seem.
Although the true meaning of this novel may have a dark side, it's written in such a way that you can't help but laugh. The convenient placings of light humor throughout the novel make this less about depression then about saving. I would recommend this book to anyone that might be struggling with their own thoughts. It is also a great way of understanding what one goes through when they are having a hard time.
