The Glass Castle by Jeanette Walls

The Glass Castle is an amazing memoir about Jeanette Wall's childhood. Jeannette's dad Rex was an alcoholic and would spend days away from home coming back seriously drunk. When Rex was not drinking he was bright, smart and would always help his kids. But when he drank he was vicious and destructive. Jeanette's mom Rose Mary was an artist. Often spending their hard earned money on art supplies instead of food and electricity. Their family will never spend more than 5 months in one place, moving from mining town to another. Often on the brink of starvation, they went dumpster diving for their food.  The memoir shows her moving from place to place and house to house. Sleeping with coyotes and always on the run from a mysterious force. Walls shows her love for her parents while also dealing with her desire to escape her families lifestyle. The book shows the struggle her whole family went through for the first 18 years of her life and how they are still learning to adapt and work together as a family. I can connect this book to the world because so many people going through this everyday, and they need help. This book isn't just one experience that happened to Walls, millions of people are chronically homeless and are in need of aid. I recommend this book to anyone who likes reading memoirs or personal experiences. I recommend this to everyone, because this is such an amazing book!!
