Dexter's 1st book: Bartimaeus: The Amulet of Samarkand

The Amulet of Samarkand is the first in the Bartimaes series, by Jonathan Stroud, a series about demons, magicians, and a corrupt London government. The book follow's two characters, Nathaniel, a talented young magician with his eyes set on vengeance, and Bartimaes, a witty demon who is forced to help Nathaniel. Nathaniel was publicly humiliated by a man called Simon Lovelace years ago, and summons Bartimaes to steal one of Lovelace's most prized possession, The Amulet of Samarkand. In doing so, both the protagonists get swept up in a storm of betrayal and corruption.

This book is actually similar to the real world, mainly because of how it portrays different governments. Like in the real world, it's government isn't always as great and lawful as some think it is. I highly recommend this book (and entire series, although I'm not done) to anyone who likes magic, governments, and/or a witty main character that cracks a few jokes now and then. This book is really great, and the 2 different characters makes you see multiple sides of things, so I recommend you go and read it!
