The Book Thief by Markus Zusak

After her brother dies on the train ride to her new foster parents, Liesel Meminger steals her first book of many The Grave Digger's Handbook, left their by the grave digger. With lots of help from her new papa, Liesel learns how to read. Not long after she is stealing books wherever she can find them, sometimes accompanied by her friend Rudy Steiner. But World War II begins and they hide a Jewish man in their basement.
The Book Thief connects to World War II because it is placed during the time of the war, in Nazi Germany, hiding a Jew in their basement. And it shows what it was like in Germany during World War II.  I would recommend this book to someone who like when the author tells you whats going to happen in the end of the book. Or people who get attached to the characters. And if you like sort of sad books.
