The graphic novel Sisters by Raina Telgmeier is a compelling graphic novel set before Raina's freshman year in high school the book covers many topics from their parent's relationship, unemployment and learning what family means and how to work together as one. When Raina's family decides to take a road trip across the country to California, little did they know that it would be filled with high tempers and fights, especially between Raina and her sister Amara. The book shows the high emotions and sacrifices each family member makes for each other. Often showing flashbacks to younger Raina, the book shows how much her family has changed and shows how much can change in in just the matter of a few years. Raina struggles to fit into her extended family and to find her place and to define the meaning of family. This connects this to real life because many people have relationships that hang on the lines and you have to dig deeper to find the meaning of it. It also deals with the topic of divorce and being good enough for the family, and many people go through that. I suggest this book to anyone who enjoys family drama and an amazing graphic novel.
