Eleanor and Park - Isabel Flores
Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell
Eleanor and Park is a love story taken place in the 1980s (best time period). Eleanor and Park isn't a type of "as soon as I saw him, I was in love" love story. This story is about how Eleanor meets Park and how their awkward friendship turns into a love story. Eleanor is from a lower class family that is controlled by their drunk step dad Richard. Eleanor was kicked out of their house by Richard a couple months, and had to live with her actual dad. When she moved back in she had to start a new school. At her new school you had to claim bus seats, and while being yelled at and made fun of she quickly sat down next to another kid. This kid was Park. Park comes from a half Irish, half Koran family. Park didn't want to be with Eleanor, he quickly tried to forget about her. After a couple of bus rides Park notices Eleanor was reading his comics books. He let her barrow his books. The two quickly bonded over the charterers and then Park let Eleanor barrow his walkman, then they started to bond over music. The two quickly began to fall in love. But there was problems. If Eleanor's step dad found out about Park she would be dead. People where also making fun of Eleanor which caused Park to get very anger. As you get deeper into the book you'll learn about how their relationship and the problems the young couple run into.
Eleanor and Park connects to the world cause it focuses on the hardships that Eleanor faces with her alcoholic father. There are many kids who have a abuse or alcoholic parent and they must have a lot holding them back from going out into the real world.
I think this book would connect to people who like the book "The Fault in Our Stars" or someone who likes the 80s. The Fault in Our Stars is also about a awkward relationship. In the Fault in Our Stars they show their adventures and how they fall in love, I believe that Eleanor and Park shows they adventures and the hard times they had, Just like the Fault in Our Stars.
