The Secret Life of Ms. Finkleman by Ben H. Winters

The Secret Life of Ms. Finkleman by Ben H. Winters is a mystery novel about a girl named Bethesda Fielding in the 7th grade who got an assignment in school to solve a mystery in her own life. But Bethesda was intrigued about another persons life; Ms. Finkleman, her music teacher. Bethesda uncovers that her plain boring music teacher actually used to be a rock star. She spreads the rumor to the other children and even the Principal at Mary Todd Lincoln Middle school, and soon Ms. Finkleman is a well-known and respected teacher. But Ms. Finkleman is upset that this news has been exposed. Later on in the story, more news is revealed; Ms. Finkleman wasn't really the rockstar, her twin sister was. The themes in this book are how misunderstandings can lead to emotional feelings and how it can change peoples perspectives a lot. Its also about how people are treated differently when rumors are spread about them.

This story taught me a lot about how spreading something untruthful about someone can hurt them in many different ways. I also understood how Bethesda wanted to go further with the expectations of her school project, but instead she went too far with them. It was a good book because when you thought the story was over, there was another turn in the book so you had to keep on reading. In conclusion, I would recommend this book to anyone who loves mystery, and loves to connect with characters with real-life problems in a story.
