A Work In Progress - Faye Arranz

Faye Arranz                                                                                                                   August 17, 2015

                                   A Work In Progress

Conner Franta, a YouTuber containing close to 5 million subscribers, decided to write a memoir called A Work In Progress. After waiting in line for a couple of hours with so called "basic white girls", I had finally received the book with one of my friends in Barnes & Nobles. The book had a white cover and a triangle cut out of the center to reveal cotton candy clouds displayed in a bright blue sky. Once opened, the words A Work In Progress were pressed against a white page and excitement filled inside me. What new things may I discover while reading this book? And may I answer you that. I found tons of quotes that are Tumblr worthy. I also found that things in his book were kind of already stated on his YouTube channel, which isn't bad but I wouldn't have spent $20 on information that I can easily find out for free. In his book he explains about his childhood of growing up in La Crosse, Wisconsin, living in a large, light-blue home with 3 other siblings. He attended catholic school and had taken swimming classes at the La Crosse YMCA. He then later explains about his experience of finding himself and feeling like he is finally accepted because of YouTube and everyone he has met. And don't get me wrong, I'm fine reading about how someone finally found themselves but a large percentage of this book was Conner blabbering on about something that I have heard more than once.

This book connects to people who have grown up believing that the way they are isn't accepted by society and no one would like them, including themselves. People who need help finding their way in life and finally being able to be who they are. Personally, I didn't connect to this book because I've grown up feeling that it's better to be who you are because everyone else is taken. So for people who can't see that it's okay for you to be you, I recommend them this book to them. And also Conner Franta fans.
